The situation

What was actually going wrong

The brand had strong products and an engaged local following, but paid social was running as an occasional boost rather than a structured acquisition channel. Catalogue setup was incomplete, retargeting was minimal, and repeat purchase behaviour was not being used to justify acquisition spend.

The work

What I changed

1

Catalogue and events fixed before scaling

Product feed and pixel events were completed and validated. Dynamic campaigns cannot outperform a broken catalogue, no matter what the budget is.

2

Creator content replaced studio assets

Pet brands live or die on authentic content. Creator and customer footage consistently outperformed produced assets, at a fraction of the cost.

3

Retargeting segmented by intent depth

Cart abandoners, product viewers and past purchasers were separated with different offers, rather than one blanket retargeting audience.

4

Retention brought into the acquisition maths

Post-purchase and replenishment flows meant the brand could afford a higher first-order acquisition cost, which unlocked audiences that had previously looked unprofitable.

The takeaway

In ecommerce, acquisition and retention are one number. Brands that separate them cap their own growth by refusing to pay what a customer is actually worth.

Questions about this work

In categories built on authenticity, consistently. It matches the feed, which is what current delivery rewards.

Substantially. If repeat purchase doubles customer value, you can profitably bid roughly twice as much for the first order, which changes which audiences are viable.

Yes. Bilingual audiences, WhatsApp-led customer service and different seasonal peaks all shape what works.
